About us

Ireko is one of Northern California’s premier interior design and furniture galleries. The Ireko name (pronounced i-ree-kow) comes from the Japanese word (入れ子) for nest of (boxes) and nesting. This classical concept in Japanese culture suggests that placing something small into something larger can define how different layers of an environment interact with one another. We think this exemplifies the Ireko interior design concept. That’s because we believe that exceptional interior design must always combine beauty with form and function. It is the process of layering the design and architectural details to make just the right impact.

Whether we create a space that offers our clients timeless sophistication and romance, or a more modern, minimalist style—we help clients envision their future in a newly designed space. We help make a house a home or a workspace a functional interior that sparks creativity and productivity.

Our roots—from floral creations
to interior design

James Rascoe and Michael Webb began Ireko in 1985 in a 700-square-foot shop, part of a 1940s bungalow in downtown Santa Rosa. As our dramatic floral arrangements for private and professional events gained a distinguished clientele in Sonoma County, we were asked to take our design vision and apply it to residential interior work. To us, creating beautiful floral environments was always just the beginning. Just as we reinterpreted the art of flower designing, we looked at interiors as yet-another canvas to create aesthetically pleasing environments that affect how we live, work, and play.

Having grown from the original Santa Rosa bungalow to a larger showroom, and now to a new, still-larger space in Montgomery Village (at 424 Farmers Lane), Ireko’s interior design and furniture store continues to juxtapose the old-world, traditional styles with the contemporary. The Ireko style provides wholly new, cosmopolitan-yet-classic stylings and concepts that best meet our client’s needs. At our showroom, you will also discover an extensive research library with resources for all manner of custom design, including architectural design and detailing, remodeling, custom furniture, bedding, drapery, lighting, home decor, and accessories.

Just as your home or workplace needs to be experienced, we invite you to experience our space as well. Visit our interior design and furniture store to explore a world of endless possibilities and become part of Ireko’s continually unfolding history of design in Sonoma County.
